Barcelona coach, Ernesto Valverde, would like to keep Ivan Rakitic who was the first choice of Piero Ausilio in January. Barca have practically won La Liga and already have one foot in Champions League semifinals and that makes Valverde’s rejection on any offer for the Croatian midfielder hard to turn around.
Inter will continue monitoring the situation but there is another option: Ilkay Gundogan. The German is a target on the rise at Inter and would be a perfect partner next to Brozovic. In addition, he has expiring contract (2020) and unlike Rakitic, Gundogan is having friction with coach Pep Guardiola especially even more so after the defeat against Tottenham in the Champions League. In the absence of new contract, City will be forced to evaluate any offer for him to avoid losing the player for free next summer.
Inter value Gundogan at €40M which, unsurprisingly, is the figure that Marotta wants to get from Perisic’s sale.
