Inter aim to reinforce the midfield in a big way and its management is zooming in on Real Madrid where it is not impossible to think that many champions will leave next season. Two names in particular: Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. The German is the top profile on the list of Ausilio and Marotta.
This is explained by the Corriere dello Sport in newsstands today:
“He is contracted until 2022 and his age is not that of Modric (turned 29 on January 4th). The former Bayern Munich is a prototypical midfielder that Inter like. He is on top of their list because he is a leader, winner, has physicality and technical ability and especially great Champions League experience. If there is even a small window to buy him, Inter management would do everything to accomplish it. That’s why they will look carefully at the evolution of Real Madrid season and any possible “stomach ache” that may come out of it.”
On the other hand, passion for Luka Modric is well known.
“So far, he has refused contract offer from Real Madrid (current one expires in 2020). Imagining the he can stay in Madrid without a renewal is not easy, very complicated. Marotta and Ausilio have repeatedly reiterated to the Croatian’s representatives that they are very interested in bringing the player to Inter, as long as he can free himself at a fixed price or get that promise (better a written one obtained by Jorge Mendes to bring Ronaldo to Juventus) from Perez.”
