“It was a shame, we all wanted to go through but it is what it is. Football, however, allows us to turn the page every week and there are new opportunities and we have to look ahead.”
Interviewed exclusively by Tuttosport, Keita Balde discusses the Champions League exit and the ongoing season at Inter.
“Now we are in Europa League which is the competition not to be thrown away. It is very important. After Champions League elimination, as a club and as a team, but also because of the history that this club has, we have to aim to win this trophy. Main goal in Serie A? We do not have a fixed objective but we must definitely improve and try to stay in the top three at the end of the season.”
President Zhang made a very strong speed during Christmas party: do you feel the desire of this ownership to return to the very top?
“I really like the president’s mentality, he is a person who gives enthusiasm and he knows how to transmit it to all of us. The president wants to do it yes and I feel this first hand since I arrived here. When I was at Lazio, I could not know Inter’s project well but I am sure it was not like this two-three years ago. Suning has brought better organization and we can build a solid foundation and aim for certain objectives.”
How is it going for you? Are Inter like that you expected?
“I imagined it was a great club and it is. My dad liked the Milan of the Dutch, very fond of them. But I followed Inter more because I watched players like Adriano, Martins and Ibrahimovic. I always picked the Nerazzurri on the PlayStation and then my idol Eto’o arrived in this club.”
