Ivan Rakitic has just made an important step in favor of Inter: the Croatian has asked president Bartomeu to leave Barcelona this summer. This is a clear message showing openness to the Nerazzurri and it also has the attention of club president Steven Zhang. For days now, there have been numerous rumors and stories about his dissatisfaction with the Catalan club to the point that his name is being linked to a new adventure in Italy.
Things have even exploded even more in the last few hours due to the signing of Frenkie De Jong from Ajax for almost €90M including bonuses and Adrien Rabiot who is destined to join in the summer. Barcelona have an agreement with the French midfielder but were not able to convince PSG to let him go in January, but he will surely arrive for free in just a few months.
With this rebuilding, Rakitic feels the unstable ground underneath him. At 30 years old, he prefers a new adventure: somewhere that he can play the role of a protagonist. According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, his family is reflecting, especially his wife Raquel. But there is also brother Dejan who is advising him. Since the transfer to Spain, Dejan has been his agent and everything is taken care of by him and every move is done towards the future.
In the meantime, Inter are looking to open a winning cycle and it is not a coincidence that in the last few weeks, the club directors have decided to widen the horizon of objectives in the hunt for top reinforcements for the midfield. Rakitic has technical attributes as a director that is well suited to the needs of Inter, lacking precisely in that area of the pitch.
So how much does he cost? There is a €125M release clause but it is logical to think that a disgruntled player often loses value. His price is destined to collapse to around €30M. Another aspect to think about is salary and currently the Croatian makes €5M net with additional bonuses (a massive number given how much Barcelona have won over the years).
But it is premature to talk about personal terms right now or any sort of agreement because Inter are going to take the diplomatic approach: especially with the big clubs. The moves right now are just preliminary in view of this upcoming summer.
