Toughest fixture of the year. Does our recent form offer any positives, or does it all go out of the window for this one?

If we are to get a result we will need to ride our luck at times, and we also need to get at them. No point sitting back and trying to soak up the pressure.

Alfie07

Alfie I wouldn’t say that as the Etihad is a very lucky ground for us only lost once since Fergie left 2 nil down at HT and still win the game.

Just like the Bridge is a very unlucky ground for us where we haven’t won since 2012 and just recently 2-1 up with a min to go and still don’t win.

Even before Juve game I was telling anyone who would listen that we wouldnt lose that game.

Ika

Think this will be a 1-1 classic. Aguero will continue his run of form, maybe Sanchez to break his duck?

killyboye

I’m going for a hard fought 1-0, ofcourse the man on fire to score

Line-up
De Gea
Young Smalling Lindelöf Shaw
Fellaini Matic
Pogba
Rashford Sanchez Martial

Ciy 0 United 1

libanski

Fellaini and Matic in the middle? City would run rings around them
Same XI as against Juve with Rashford, Mata, Fred and Fellaini on the bench if we need to make changes

homerjay540

Reckon it will be the same 11 that started against Juve unless Lingard and Rashford trade places.
We tend to do well at the Etihad.
Looking forward to it and as well as being up for it I think confidence id growing – for individuals and the team. 2-2 for me.

moral

This is a good chance to bring in some fresh legs, though with so many players coming back, it’s hard to predict the line-up. Main thing is to never underestimate the opponent, no matter who they are.

Keita, Shaqiri, Fabinho and Gomez must start or play at least 30 min, and even Henderson may play a part.

I would definitely rest the likes of Gini (looks too tired), and TAA (not up to scratch of late)

Songman

Starting Fabinho and Kieta in the same midfield is too big a gamble.
They are 2 players who have yet to settle in a struggling midfield which is asked a lot of. Throwing them both in together, even at home against Fulham, is an unnecessary risk that’s not worth taking.

gingerlfc

Apparantly Gomez is struggling with an Achilles injury so maybe this is the time to rest him to allow him to recover.
Trent goes rightback and Lovren in at centreback.

gingerlfc

I never said we should start with Fabinho, and I certainly wouldn’t, but as I stated above, he can play up to 30 min.

Keita definitely starts for me

Songman

Would definitely have Lovren instead of Matip, would maybe go for a midfield of Kieta, Milner, and Shaq

Arsenal Liverpool

As long as the front 4 of salah mane firmino n shaqiri play we should be fine.

redsforever

Wise words songman. No one can be underestimated, even Fulham who are having a shocking run.

shanksy

Fulham is a must win. Klopp has a 100% home record against newly promoted teams so anymore other than 3 points will be confidence deflating after the disappointment of the Red Star defeat.

kopite

I’d start with this :

————Alisson
Gomez – Lovren – Van Dijk – Robertson
——-Wijnaldum – Fabinho
—–Salah – Shaqiri – Mane
————-Firmino

I would prefer Gomez at CB but Trent has been awful. Also, Firmino performs here or he gets dropped. I’d tell him this, diplomatically, before the training sessions building up to it. enough is enough. We should never have let Ings go. We don’t have enough options up top to even begin to push Firmino for a start. Maybe we need to buy someone in January?

Anyway, that’s a hugely attacking side who “should” easily win against Fulham. Who bloody knows at this stage though. It’s like January 2016 all over again.

Dissapointing result.Statistically we had 15 attempts at goal, and they 1.But yesterday showed one thing which I have been doubting since a long time is when we’ve still not improved our aggression that has been lacking from the club since ages. You come up against a team, that is dirty and physical exactly what sporting were and it’s difficult to break them down. Some of the decisions were mind baffling. As it is welbeck’s injury was not bad enough for which he surely will be sidelined for a long time,I saw somewhere that someone stamped Ramsey’s calf and he didn’t do anything about it.A potentially dangerous tackle. Then Someone elbowed Miki clearly, which at the least warranted a yellow and then he even came on Miki’s face, but miki like a wuss ran away from him. Then There was an instance where one of our players was injured, and sporting continued playing even though it was in their own half they could’ve easily kicked the ball out.Now they are what they are,but none of our players even got upset. To add to all of that, some 50/50 decisions we don’t appeal for.

Some dreadful passing and ball retention and we were poor offensively.

But we won despite Bate hitting the woodwork 3 times and have qualified for the ko stage but that is a game best forgotten.

I thought Christensen had a half decent game but was put under little real pressure and the midfield three of RLC, Jorginho and Barkley were poor tonight can only see Jorginho bring retained of those 3 for the Everton game.

nine nine nine

Haha Girouds header was excellent but that’s about all. Winning a game and noone played well. The omens have been 5 good so far this season.

Blueowner

12 points perfect and interestingly there are 4 other Group leaders with a perfect record. We were pretty ordinary tonight. I expected having both Barkley and Loftus-Cheek in the side we would be too much for Bate but their defensive line of 10 parked buses plus a goal keeper was a tough nut to crack and only when they went behind and decided to have a go they caused us all sorts. Three times hitting a post plus a couple of nailed on chances over the bar. Best this one is archived and forgotten. Glad to see Giroud score though otherwise he may well have been discarded on here as a waste of space by a few.

Chelsea1967

I don’t think you can take much from these Russian away games. The temperature started at freezing and got progressively colder as the game progressed. I’m pretty sure it was a case of ‘let’s just get the job done and get back home’.

Bate threw the kitchen sink at it and were unlucky not to score in the end.

Great to see Olivier score and with a very tidy headed finish as well.

AshCFC

Only got to see the second half but felt overall we were poor. Far too slow in our build up, gave the ball away far to often and time and time again we let Bate hit the defence with little cover provided and you have to say they were unlucky not to come away with something (personally thought that Kante was required to replace RLC)

Not sure if we take these games to casually or not but overall I think that has summed up our journey in Europe to date

A very well taken goal by Giroud and we need to play more to his strengths when he plays as he has good movement in the box as the attack progresses but rarely gets a decent ball to attack

Anyway, job done, one more point required to guarantee top spot and now all attention moves to the weekend where I am sure we will see a completely different game. KTBFFH

Personally I would be looking for a CB to replace Luiz and start with Rudiger. I have no problems with Alonso but do feel that Dave is struggling this year and his distribution has been poor, however, I am still banking on him finding his feet as he has been such a great servant to date

I actually like both Emerson and Zappa and feel they provide great cover, are both excellent going forward but just not convinced about them defensively (which is why they play against the weaker opposition and not so much in the league). Would not go near Moses with a barge pole and expect him to leave in January

RLC is getting games but continues to frustrate but really feel sorry for both Hudson Odoi and Ampadu as they seem to pick up injuries when their chances are due but both seem to be in the plans of Sarri anyway. Agree difficult to buy a top striker in January which is why I expect Sarri to stick with what he has especially as Morata appears to be finding some kind of form

Due to the normal difficulties in the market in January I would not be surprised if we simply do nothing and wait until the Summer. KTBFFH

CFC1905

The two areas we are constantly linked with and the areas we looked to strengthen in the Summer are centre back and striker and those are the areas I think we’ll focus on either in January or the Summer.

I’m not sure we can get the right players in the January window if we can’t I would prefer we wait until the summer when the right players are more likely to be available.

nine nine nine

I think for now only a striker and a sweeper who marks tightly, theres a lot of players who are unable to get much game time for whatever reason so new additions may fall into the same position. In most cases if you dont play enough you will not be too sharp when you have to play. At the same time if the team is winning you cant be expected to make too many changes.

Notnice

According to reports today, Sarri is asking the board to bid 35m for Callum Wilson in January to bolster our attacking options…?

Again last night against weak opposition I felt that both Cahill and Christensen looked poor and were caught out to often for my liking so I would suggest that a decent CB is required, even if this is as cover to push Luiz, and we should seriously consider using Zouma in the swuad next year as well.
