Mesut Ozil’s future is at Arsenal, the player’s agent confirmed amid reports linking him with a January move.

The German has struggled for game time recently with injury problems and “tactical reasons” keeping him out of the Gunners’ squad.

Mesut Özil’s current Arsenal situation: five things you need to know….

  1. Mesut Ozil renewed his contract with Arsenal last year, taking his earnings to a reported £350,000 per week.
  2. The German was named one of five club captains at the start of the season by Emery.
  3. However, he has been left out of the Arsenal line-up on occasion this season with Emery citing “tactical reasons“.
  4. This led Ozil to be linked with a move away from Arsenal, with Unai Emery admitted he will be looking to add new players in January.
  5. But Ozil’s agent has now revealed the German will be staying at Arsenal and looking to fight for his place.

This led Ozil to be linked with a January move away from Arsenal, despite signing a new long-term contract at the start of 2018.

But, after Arsenal boss Unai Emery previously spoke of his need for the German, Ozil’s agent has put an end to all speculation of the midfielder’s future.

“I would prefer not to speak publicly about Mesut’s situation, but given the recent speculation linking him with a move away from Arsenal, I do feel it is important to provide some clarity so we can end this and focus on football,” Dr Erkut Sogut told Goal.

“Mesut signed a new contract last January because he saw his future at Arsenal and nothing has changed in his mind.

“He wants to stay for the duration of that contract and maybe even longer.”

Dr Sogut went on to speak of Ozil’s commitment to Arsenal, revealing the German’s honour in being named one of the club’s captains under Emery.

He added: “Mesut is 100 per cent committed to Arsenal Football Club. He loves the club, shares its values and does not want to be anywhere else.

“He is proud to wear the shirt and honoured to represent Arsenal on and off the pitch. He takes his responsibilities – including being selected as one of the captains this season – very seriously and has a great relationship with his team-mates, the staff and fans.”

Ozil will work hard to adapt to Emery’s style

As well as all-but confirming Ozil’s Arsenal future, the player’s agent also revealed his determination to adapt to Emery’s style of football.

“In the last year, there has been enormous upheaval for everybody at the club and the first half of this season has not been perfect for Mesut,” he added.

“He has suffered from injuries and illness, and is working hard to adapt to the different system employed by head coach Unai Emery.

“This may take time, but Mesut will give everything he has to help make it work and bring success to Arsenal.”

Ozil has previously been criticised for not being suitable to a high-intensity system such as Emery’s, with the board reportedly taking these doubts on board.

According to BBC journalist David Ornstein, members of the Arsenal hierarchy did not want to offer Aaron Ramsey a new contract with a high pay rise as they did Ozil, in case the Welshman follows the same path.

He reportedly told BBC 5 Live: “Some in the Arsenal hierarchy regret the Ozil contract and didn’t want to repeat the same ‘mistake’.

“Also Ramsey didn’t actually want to be highest paid, just around [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan level.”

Ornstein also claimed Ozil would not be able to change his playing style given his age.
