Speaking to Bethard Youtube channel, Zlatan Ibrahimovic looks back at Inter’s defeat at the hands of Atalanta on January 18th 2009.
“I remember that we were losing against Atalanta and it was half-time. The next day I was going to receive an award as best player in Italy but in front of the team, Mourinho told me that I should be ashamed to receive that award. He told me that ‘the way that you are playing, you do not deserve half of it.’ We were there in the dressing room and he just massacred and just destroyed me. So I said, ‘Ok, I am not doing well and so maybe I should do better.’ We still lost that game but at least in the second half I got a goal, cooling the criticism a bit, and I still went on to pick up that award the next day.”
Ibra continues, “I had situations like that before where I just got hammered by the coaches in different way. The difference with Mourinho is that he likes to say it directly to you and he says it his own way because he has personality.”
