Former Inter president Massimo Moratti discusses the event that happened yesterday when Inter took away the captain’s armband from Mauro Icardi, giving it to Samir Handanovic.

“I am surprised because it seems to a bit useless. But there are reasons and strategies within the club which I cannot get into them. I do not understand why but it seems to be a useless thing to do in the middle of the season when there are objectives to achieve and they cannot sell him… Would I do such thing as president? I do not know the conditions and so, again, I do not understand the reasons of this decision.

“All statements made by the club, Wanda and Icardi are in public. It’s my fault, it’s your fault… this is a very bad thing. This is a situation that takes the player away from the club and vice versa. Bergomi and Zanetti? Icardi was an excellent captain, he has always played with enthusiasm, seriousness, professionalism.”
