The big time performance against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu last Saturday has increased further doubts for the Catalan club regarding the future of Ivan Rakitic.
As highlighted by Sport, despite the desire of coach Ernesto Valverde and the player himself to stay in Barcelona, the club must make financial assessment especially after spending €80M on Frenkie De Jong who will start next season.
Selling Rakitic now is a logical solution considering that he is 31 years old and his replacement is already signed. But Barcelona want to make money and need to make a major sale between €60M-€70M. On the other side, the Croatian would like to renew his contract that expires in 2021, something is not in this club’s consideration at the moment. In addition, Barcelona are ready to give more minutes to Carles Alena and Riqui Puig.
In terms of contenders, there are two in Inter and Paris Saint Germain. Both clubs are wiling to satisfy the Croatian’s wage demand. Barca will take the next few months to think it over.
